My Personal Action Plan For 2017 - 1464 Words

Included in my Personal Action Plan for 2017 are several goals that I need to achieve in order to reach my long-term personal objectives. They include, earning a promotion to Vice President, saving $3.5 million for retirement, maintaining my health, and attaining an MBA degree. All four long-term objectives are specific, relevant to me, in line with my life goals, and time-bound. Most importantly, they are attainable, so I can set new goals once these are met. Furthermore, I am cognizant of the temporal and financial resources required to achieve each objective and I am prepared to sacrifice other lower-priority activities and goals to achieve my objectives (MindTools, 2016). Tactics for achieving short-term objectives To achieve short-term objectives, it is important to create goals that are specific, measurable or meaningful, attainable, relevant, and time-bound. These are also known as SMART goals. Each SMART goal is be expressed in positive terms, for example, ‘Maintain a healthy weight of 176 lbs’, instead of ‘I do not want to be overweight’. Not all goals are achievable concurrently. Therefore, the prioritization of goals is often necessary. For example, attaining an MBA degree is a major commitment of time and financial resources. As such, I plan to complete my IT certifications before I pursue an MBA degree. Goals should be written down, which gives them relevance and makes them easy to reference and maintain.
